Two good coats of zinc based primer and then plenty of semi-gloss cellulose to top it off. Can now start looking for bits to bolt back on to it.

Most of the welding on the chassis now completed. Most of the repairs have been TIG welded, plus a few bits of brazing. Originally hot rivets were used, so to keep it looking right dummy rivet heads have been built up with weld. There were also over 30 holes that have been drilled in the chassis from it's earlier life as a special. These have all been welded in. Sandblasting and paint next week??
Rear of  section of the chassis rail
had to be removed.
New section made and welded up.
The rivets are 'cheat'. Blobs of weld!
Rusted away.....
New metal welded in.
Rivets made from steel rod.

A good start on the chassis today. I bet those nuts & bolts on the rear suspension haven't been moved since 1932! Surprisingly I managed to undo all of them with the help of the 'very hot' spanner. The rear springs had been flame cut from the axle so no point in saving them. A fair bit of welding to be done and numerous holes that have been drilled in the chassis will need to be welded in. (no doubt this was very much a special in its earlier life)

Next project starts here..... 1932 Austin 7 special. Just missing one or two bits and a few hours work I think?

New lug fitted to the Bonneville frame today. The  lug is supplied as a fork. Once tacked in place, the forks are heated and gently tapped around the frame. This leaves a small gap which is filled with weld and the ground smooth. I was fortunate in having another frame with an intact lug to take the angle from. Frame has now been blasted & primed.

New lug.

A couple of careful cuts and a bit of hot spanner work (the lug was brazed) and now ready for the new stand mount.

A little bit of elbow grease? No, these covers were very dull due to the lacquer peeling off and mild corrosion. a run through in the vapour blaster to remove the lacquer, wet & dry work with a DA sander and a bit of time on the buffing wheel and a vast improvement.
